A tragic accident has led to the death of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, a 23-year-old from North Carolina, at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, was announced by officials on Friday.
Airman Eneluna was serving in the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight. His unit is crucial for maintaining infrastructure such as roads and airfields at the base, supporting launch and test operations as part of the U.S. Space Force. Vandenberg has responsibilities that include launching satellites into polar orbit and conducting intercontinental ballistic missile tests.
The accident involved heavy equipment rolling down an embankment while Eneluna was operating it. Fortunately, no other personnel sustained injuries during the incident.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna,” Vandenberg Space Force Base stated. “A1C Eneluna served with honor, humility, and an unwavering commitment to his teammates and the mission.”
The official cause of death is under investigation by the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office. A Safety Investigation Board is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Eneluna hailed from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and spent part of his childhood in the Philippines. He joined the military on March 5, 2024, and began his assignment at Vandenberg in August, becoming part of the “Dirt Boyz” team, a specialized group of pavement and heavy equipment specialists.
His positive attitude and tireless work ethic earned him respect and admiration from fellow service members. U.S. Space Force Col. James T. Horne III praised Eneluna, noting his lasting impact on teammates through his character and dedication.
U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Seth Poulsen also commended Eneluna’s qualities as an outstanding Airman, emphasizing his readiness to work and willingness to help others. Eneluna was recognized for bringing out the best in those around him.
