Pat Oliphant, an acclaimed editorial cartoonist, made significant contributions to political satire, influencing generations through his work. With an expansive career, Oliphant addressed numerous presidents from Lyndon Johnson to Donald Trump, reaching a wide audience through syndication.
In 1967, Oliphant submitted a collection for the Pulitzer Prize in editorial cartooning. This assortment consisted of twelve cartoons that had been published in the Denver Post. Among these, he included eleven pieces he was proud of, alongside one he considered subpar, strategically aimed to resonate with the jury’s political sensibilities.
An exhibition of his work took place in 1998 at the Susan Conway Gallery in Washington, showcasing his significant impact on political commentary in the United States.
