Influencer Connor Michael Murphy, known for his ‘looksmaxxing’ content, has died in Thailand. Authorities described his death as an apparent drowning. Murphy was 32 years old.
Friends of the American content creator confirmed his passing on social media on July 8. Police in Samut Prakan province responded to a report on Tuesday afternoon about erratic behavior at a luxury rental home. This area is approximately 16 miles south of Bangkok.
Reports indicate a staff member recorded Murphy on video before he entered a nearby lake. Witnesses saw him swimming but he appeared to lose strength. They did not enter the water due to its depth exceeding 10 meters, or nearly 33 feet.
Divers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation searched the lake for 30 minutes. They found Murphy about 20 meters from the shore. Authorities said an initial examination showed no signs of assault. His body was sent to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Murphy had gained a large following by sharing his transformation from a skinny teenager to a fitness model. His success was largely on platforms like Instagram, where he shared bodybuilding and fitness content.
Murphy and his girlfriend, identified as Bee, stayed at the villa under a three-month rental agreement. The property owner stated the home is valued at about 22 million baht, or roughly $600,000, and rents for 35,000 baht per month, just over $1,000.
Police found parts of the villa damaged with black and yellow paint. Bee reported the damage occurred overnight while she slept and mentioned she never saw Murphy using drugs. His behavior seemed unusual that day, she told investigators.
Born in Texas, Murphy had over 2.7 million followers across YouTube and Instagram. He associated with the looksmaxxing community, focused on fitness and physical appearance improvements.
Murphy last updated his social media on July 3 with a video of himself playing soccer indoors. The investigation into his death continues.
