Djokovic Achieves Historic Win at Wimbledon, Surpassing Federer

Novak Djokovic continues to build his reputation as a tennis legend. In a historic victory at Wimbledon on Sunday, he surpassed Roger Federer by achieving his 106th win at the tournament. Djokovic faced Roman Safiullin, securing a 7-6 (6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory, which propelled him to the quarterfinals. This accomplishment places Djokovic at the top of the all-time wins list at Wimbledon, just ahead of Federer.

Martina Navratilova holds the overall record with 120 Wimbledon wins, indicating Djokovic still has a way to go. Reflecting on his victory, Djokovic remarked, Survive to thrive, that’s how I feel. So hopefully the thriving part is coming. This match, which spanned nearly three-and-a-half hours, is the longest Djokovic has played at Wimbledon since his loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2023 final.

Alcaraz, who also defeated Djokovic in last year’s final, is absent this year due to a right wrist injury, tenosynovitis, which has sidelined him for a significant period. Yet, Janik Sinner, who has troubled Djokovic in previous matches, is actively competing. Sinner, favored by sportsbooks, was set for a match against Shintaro Mochizuki.

Meanwhile, DraftKings Sportsbook lists Djokovic as a +500 favorite to win, aiming to equal Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles. Despite the demands of Sunday’s match, Djokovic’s performance under pressure remains notable. His upcoming challenge is against Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No. 3 seed and No. 4 ATP player, scheduled for Tuesday, July 7.
