Nafiah Ikram’s Journey of Resilience After Acid Attack

Nafiah Ikram was near her Long Island home in March 2021 when an unknown attacker threw acid in her face. The assault left her with severe facial scars, and she has since undergone numerous surgeries.

At 27, she is working to rebuild her life while dealing with unexpected developments in her case. This process has been challenging, especially as the crime has yet to be solved by the Nassau County police.

Jul 5, 2026, Ikram revisited her routine of visiting a nail salon wearing a pink and white outfit, complete with matching headphones. This ritual is part of her effort to restore normalcy and regain a sense of self after the attack. Her aim is to reconcile her pre-attack identity with her current self-image, which she describes as battling the ‘monster’ she sees reflected back.

Despite the scars, she continues to engage in activities that she once enjoyed, trying to reconnect with the joy she felt before the attack. She often reflects on her past and what pretty means to her now. Her love for makeup and dressing up persists, contributing to her sense of identity and self-acceptance.

The attacker’s identity remains unknown, a detail that haunts Ikram as the authorities continue their investigation without new leads. This contributes to her ongoing struggle with fear and the effort to reclaim her life.
