The Chicago Blackhawks’ development camp is in full swing. Prospects are diligently working through drills under the guidance of development coaches, including Kendall Coyne Schofield. Both the 2025 and 2026 draft classes are participating. For the 2026 class, this is their first experience in Chicago. Ryan Roobroeck, the No. 35 pick, describes the city as “a sick city.” The 2025 draftees are hoping to secure a permanent spot here soon.
Václav Nestrašil
The 19-year-old right winger from Czechia had a significant winter, clinching a silver medal at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Junior Championships. He reflects on Sweden’s victory, led by Anton Frondell, with humor. In his first collegiate season at UMass, Nestrašil accumulated 31 points, with 13 goals and 18 assists. Transitioning to the NCAA was challenging, but he embraced the tougher competition.
“It was hard to adjust,” Nestrašil said, “but I figured out what I needed to do.”
At 6-foot-6 and 205 pounds, Nestrašil will continue with UMass, now joined by 2026 No. 66 pick Samu Alalauri. The two immediately connected after the draft, and Nestrašil is thrilled to have him as a teammate.
Mason West
Mason West, promising Blackhawks prospect, once shined as a dual-sport athlete. He recalls his exceptional football state championship win with pride. Now, his focus shifts solely to hockey with the USHL’s Fargo Force, where he secured 25 points in 38 games.
“I can see myself getting better every single day,” West stated, as he focuses on improving his hockey skills.
Team USA has invited West for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase. Committed to Michigan State, he eagerly anticipates new challenges and improving his physique to strengthen his play.
Nathan Behm
Nathan Behm, aged 19, developed remarkably with the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers. Delivering impressive stats, he recorded 86 points last season. As he enters NCAA competition with Arizona State, Behm aims to boost his speed and explosiveness.
Julius Sumpf
At 21, Julius Sumpf proved his prowess at Providence College, joining the Blackhawks camp. He values the experience against bigger players and thrives on having a fellow Providence teammate, John Mustard, in Chicago. Sumpf is optimistic about a successful season with the Friars.
Parker Holmes
Parker Holmes, a 19-year-old winger, transitioned from the OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs to the Sarnia Sting. In the past season, he notched 17 points in 49 games. Holmes is eager to make a strong impression with his new team.
Ashton Cumby
Defenseman Ashton Cumby steps into the professional realm with the Rockford IceHogs. The 20-year-old has signed a two-year AHL contract after showcasing his skills with the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds. Cumby focuses on a confident first impression with the squad, eager for growth and success.
