Princess Catherine Takes on Three Peaks Challenge for Cancer Awareness

By June 29, 2026, Princess Catherine of Wales completed the UK’s National Three Peaks Challenge. This involved climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours. Her goal was to raise awareness and funds for a cancer charity.

The 44-year-old royal, known to many as Kate, was diagnosed with an unspecified cancer type in March 2024. She announced she was in remission in early 2025 after chemotherapy treatment. In a social media post, Kensington Palace explained her participation in the challenge as both a physical test and an opportunity to explore life beyond her diagnosis while giving back.

The challenge demanded hiking 23 miles and ascending 10,052 feet by climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Mount Snowdon. The effort also included 462 miles of driving between these peaks. Catherine took on this endeavor for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which is linked to the hospital where she received treatment.

Kate emphasized the importance of holistic healthcare for those battling serious illnesses. She stated, “Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare. The journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone.”

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity highlights holistic cancer care’s integration of physical, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing alongside traditional treatments like chemotherapy. Kate noted, “Healing, whether personal or collective, is not just about fixing what is wrong. It’s about finding balance in how we live, between effort and acceptance.”

Though Catherine completed the challenge on her own, she had support along the route from Britain’s Mountain Rescue charity. Afterwards, she was met by Prince William, their children, and her family. Writing about her cancer experience, she shared how it tested every part of her being and affected everything around her, including private moments.

Kate paused public engagements for her treatment after her diagnosis. Since announcing her remission, she has returned publicly, including a visit to northern Italy in May 2026.
