After supporting the New York Knicks through a long playoff series, Timothée Chalamet is returning to work. The Academy has nominated him four times for an Oscar, and now he is joining forces with Selena Gomez for the Illumination animated film, “Not Alone.” This Universal Studios production is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
Chalamet will voice Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who enjoys a life of solitude. Meanwhile, Gomez will play Fran, an astro-botanist known for developing the first plant-fueled rocket. This casting decision was announced at the Annecy Film Festival in France.
The plot begins when Joe and Fran must collaborate to launch the groundbreaking rocket. Their dynamic includes romantic sparks, though both characters struggle with romance. Complications arise when three aliens, Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, find refuge in Joe’s home as they flee from Zandro, a clumsy yet fervent law officer. These aliens aim to use Fran’s rocket to return home.
The film’s director is Eric Guillon, known for his co-direction of “Despicable Me 3.” The announcement has elicited both excitement and surprise among fans. One fan remarked, “Insane pairing we all never expected,” while another observed the unexpected nature of an Illumination project with these stars.
Onlookers have voiced various opinions online, with comments like, “This plot sounds so chaotic and cute at the same time, I’m seated!” Some discussion revolves around alleged tension between Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner, stemming from an incident at the 2024 Golden Globes. However, Chalamet assured TMZ that relations with Gomez remain positive, and his girlfriend harbors no ill will. He confidently stated, “Yeah, of course,” when asked about his rapport with Gomez.
While speculation exists on past conflicts, audiences can anticipate numerous scenes featuring Chalamet and Gomez, made possible by this latest cinematic venture.
