The Philadelphia Phillies celebrated a significant victory over the New York Mets, driven by remarkable performances from Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. The game marked a milestone in the team’s resurgence following the departure of manager Rob Thomson.
Kyle Schwarber dazzled fans by hitting three home runs, with two in a single inning. His powerful display included a 456-foot shot followed by a 457-foot smash off Mets pitcher Cionel Pérez. Later, Schwarber added a two-run homer in the seventh inning, bringing his home run tally to 28 for the season, leading the major league. This performance marked his fifth game with three home runs.
Meanwhile, Bryce Harper completed his career-first cycle, adding to Philadelphia’s offensive prowess. Harper’s contribution included a solo home run in the first inning and hits that completed the rare cycle: a double, single, and a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Harper’s cycle is only the 11th in Phillies history.
Pitcher Cristopher Sanchez contributed strongly, allowing only one earned run over six innings, reducing his ERA to 1.80. His reliable performance at Citizens Bank Park continued, as he maintained a streak of allowing two or fewer earned runs in 23 consecutive starts, a record second only to Jacob deGrom’s 24-game streak at Citi Field.

Schwarber joined an elite group as the 67th player in MLB history to hit multiple homers in a single inning. He becomes the fourth Phillies player to achieve this feat, following Trea Turner, Von Hayes, and Andy Seminick.
As the series continues, anticipation builds for the concluding game. The Phillies and Mets are set for their final match-up of the series on Sunday night at 7:20 p.m. ET.
