Coco Gauff, at 22 years old, expressed excitement at the potential return of Serena Williams to tennis. Speaking at Roland-Garros, Gauff noted her hope of playing with or against Williams, remarking, “That would be really cool.” Histories of speculation had circulated, and if confirmed, it would certainly invigorate the sport.
Williams, aged 44, expressed interest in partnering with Gauff in doubles. “I would really love to play with Coco,” Williams shared after participating in the Berlin Tennis Open with Karolina Muchova. Upon losing, she praised Muchova’s skill but highlighted her preference for teaming with Gauff, citing her focused singles play.
The tennis legend played her first professional match since the 2022 US Open alongside Victoria Mboko at the HSBC Championships in London. Their performance ended as Mboko withdrew due to a knee injury. Williams then refocused efforts towards Berlin and subsequently announced she would join her sister Venus Williams in doubles at Wimbledon.
Williams is distinguished as a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion. In tandem, Serena and Venus have captured 14 doubles titles, six of which occurred at Wimbledon.
