Sports History: Danny Goodwin’s Draft Journey
On June 8, 1971, Danny Goodwin, a catcher from Peoria Central High School, was drafted first overall by the Chicago White Sox. Despite receiving a substantial offer, Goodwin chose to attend Southern University. In 1975, the California Angels drafted him with the first pick again, and he played seven seasons in professional baseball.

In 1976, legendary defenseman Bobby Orr signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. Due to knee issues, Orr’s playing time was limited. However, he served as an assistant coach from 1978, adding his expertise to the team.
