NBA Finals: Knicks vs. Spurs Game 2 Preview

Jalen Brunson was the standout player in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, leading the New York Knicks to an opening win. Despite a tough night on the field, Victor Wembanyama managed impressive numbers in his debut for the San Antonio Spurs.

While stars shine in the finals, victory often relies on the team as a whole.

Game 2 of the series is set for Friday night in San Antonio. The Spurs aim to level the series before heading to New York, whereas the Knicks strive to replicate Houston’s 1995 achievement of beginning the NBA Finals with two road wins.

The game starts at 8:42 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on ABC. The Spurs are favored by 6.5 points.

Brunson scored 30 points in the Game 1 victory, where the Knicks overcame a 14-point deficit in the third quarter and finished with an 11-0 run. Despite the focus on Brunson, the Knicks acknowledged contributions from players like Josh Hart. Hart only scored three points, but his impact was evident in other areas, such as 15 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. The last player with similar finals stats was Larry Bird in 1986.

Brunson spoke about Hart, his former Villanova teammate, saying, “His energy is relentless. It doesn’t stop. He’s like a big kid with an absurd amount of energy.”

The Knicks are pursuing their 13th consecutive playoff win, potentially achieving the second-longest single-season streak in NBA history. Golden State set a record with 15 consecutive playoff wins in 2017.

Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox commented, “It’s a long series. We want to win every game at home, but it doesn’t always happen. We’ll focus on making necessary adjustments for a different outcome.”
