Rep. Madeleine Dean from Pennsylvania expressed concerns about Graham Platner’s suitability for the Maine U.S. Senate race. She stated on ‘News Central’ that recent allegations disqualify him from being a candidate.
“It’s distressing with all the stories coming out,” Dean remarked. Although she is not a Maine voter, she believes Platner has disqualified himself as a Senate candidate. Dean emphasized that, despite Governor Mills remaining on the ballot, Platner’s actions make him unfit for the race.
Graham Platner, identified as an oyster farmer and combat veteran, aims to secure the Democratic nomination to oppose Republican Senator Susan Collins. Allegations from former girlfriend Lyndsey Fifield, reported by Fox News Digital and The New York Times, include accusations of physical aggression during their past relationship.
Platner refuted the broader claims in a statement to the Associated Press. He admitted some personal failings but dismissed other allegations as politically charged. Besides these claims, Platner has faced controversies concerning explicit texts, a tattoo linked to Nazi symbolism, and past derogatory online remarks. He has since expressed regret over these actions.
Amid these controversies, Governor Janet Mills, though having suspended her active campaign, continues on the ballot for the Democratic primary. The deputy secretary of state clarified that votes for Mills will be valid. Mills has indicated that her choice remains viable despite her campaign suspension.
During a broader interview, Dean criticized the Trump administration’s Iran policy, urging a diplomatic approach to prevent Iran from developing nuclear capabilities. She advocated for diplomatic reliance and cautioned against unfreezing Iranian assets without concessions.
Dean also addressed a proposed immigration enforcement fund, highlighting Democratic opposition to the $1.8 billion proposal. She criticized expanded funding for ICE, arguing against additional financial allocations to the agency.
Fox News Digital attempted to reach Platner for comments but did not receive a timely response.
