Los Angeles County Ballots Processing Status

Los Angeles County election officials are diligently counting ballots from Tuesday’s primary election. As of Wednesday evening, 77,521 ballots had been processed according to Dean Logan, the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. This brings the total count to nearly 1.4 million, indicating a 23.7% voter turnout.

As of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, approximately 713,180 ballots remain to be processed:

  • Vote-by-mail ballots: 700,000
  • Conditional voter registration ballots: 11,340
  • Provisional ballots: 1,840

The unprocessed ballots include those postmarked by election day, received via the United States Postal Service, and returned at official drop boxes and vote centers. This estimate is subject to change as processing continues.

L.A. Mayoral Race

Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass delivered a victory-like speech on Tuesday night, while Councilmember Nithya Raman seemed to concede. The race sees a contest between Spencer Pratt and Raman to face Bass in the November 3rd runoff.

34th Congressional District Overview

Democrats Rep. Jimmy Gomez and Angela Gonzales-Torres advance to the November election in the 34th District. Gomez is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for alleged misconduct, which he has denied.

California Governor’s Race

Republican Steve Hilton leads in the governor’s race with Democrat Xavier Becerra closing the gap. This race will likely proceed to a November runoff. Democrat Tom Steyer remains behind.

Shasta County Measure B

In Shasta County, Measure B seeks to dramatically change local elections by requiring in-person voting and voter ID, and reducing mail voting. It appears to be leading but may face legal challenges due to potential state and federal law violations.

Monterey Park’s Measure NDC

Residents of Monterey Park voted to ban data centers, a first by public vote in the nation. Measure NDC passed with significant support.

L.A. School Board Elections

Los Angeles Unified School District incumbents, including Rocio Rivas and Nick Melvoin, lead in their races due to support from major political groups.

Other Notable Races

The gubernatorial primary race sees Democrat Xavier Becerra slightly trailing Republican Steve Hilton. Tom Steyer presents competition as results continue to roll in.

In the 1st District, Republican James Gallagher and Democrat Mike McGuire will face off in November following Gallagher’s special election win to fill the late Doug LaMalfa’s seat.
