San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York faced charges this past weekend in Ohio. Arrested in East Palestine, York was detained on accusations including disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
On Monday, York entered a no contest plea. The court sentenced him to one day in jail for both offenses, which he served concurrently. He had already served one day in jail, and he received credit for that. In addition to jail time, York was fined $1,150.
Initially, York faced a more serious charge of engaging in prostitution. However, prosecutors later reduced the charge to disorderly conduct. As part of his plea agreement, York returned a cellphone and $160, the latter of which was donated to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. York also completed an online course related to the incident.
Attempts to get a comment from the 49ers and the NFL were unsuccessful. Neither has issued a statement regarding the matter.
York, now 46, assumed control of the 49ers in 2008, stepping into the role previously held by his parents. He became the principal owner in 2024. After some setbacks under York, the team improved with Coach Kyle Shanahan and General Manager John Lynch at the helm starting in 2017.
Under York’s leadership, the 49ers reached the Super Bowl three times. They lost in the 2012 season with Coach Jim Harbaugh and again in the 2019 and 2023 seasons with Shanahan and Lynch.
York also played a significant role in the creation of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The team transferred from San Francisco to this new stadium in 2014. Since then, the venue has hosted two Super Bowls, a World Cup, and a College Football Playoff title game.
