The Milwaukee Brewers captured their inaugural championship in franchise history on Wednesday night. They triumphed over the Tampa Bay Rays, securing a 4-1 victory in Game 5 of the World Series.
Two-time NL Manager of the Year, Pat Murphy, led the team to victory. First baseman Jake Bauers, who played a critical role, was named NLCS MVP for his contributions. In a touching post-game moment, Bauers handed Murphy the game ball. Murphy congratulated his slugger on the field.
During the celebration, Murphy made a subtle remark regarding Bauer’s former team, the New York Yankees. Bauers, after 84 games with the Yankees in the 2023 season, joined the Brewers in November of that year. As Bauers approaches free agency this offseason, he anticipates a significant contract and possibly a new team.
“The following video includes strong language,” warns a statement accompanying footage of the celebration.
Bauers, a 31-year-old former seventh-round pick, has had an itinerant career. He played for the Rays (2018), the then-Cleveland Indians (2019, 2021), Seattle Mariners (2021), and the Yankees (2023), before his current three-season stint with Milwaukee under Murphy.
Bauer’s career took off unexpectedly in 2026 with personal bests in home runs (26), RBIs (86), and several other offensive stats. His slash line was .266/.389/.484 over 578 plate appearances. Notably, he ranked third in on-base percentage.
The Yankees are already making moves this offseason, following another premature playoff exit at the hands of the Rays in the ALDS. They have confirmed the return of general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone for the 2027 season, if the games proceed.
The MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is due to expire on December 1. A lockout appears likely to occur afterward.
