Changes in Pentagon Leadership Amid General’s Dismissal

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned due to alleged policy disputes. In response, President Donald Trump appointed Adam Telle as the acting secretary. Discussions on ‘Fox News Sunday’ examined these changes in Pentagon leadership, considering U.S. military supply and a naval blockade.

In another development, War Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed a senior Pentagon strategist amid an investigation. This strategist, Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, allegedly leaked classified information to journalists regarding conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. A Department of War official informed Fox News about these allegations and noted Sylvia failed three polygraph tests related to these leaks. The matter has now been escalated to the Justice Department.

Sylvia is accused of meeting with journalists outside the Pentagon intending to share classified details. This action allegedly followed new restrictions imposed by Hegseth, requiring media escorts within the building.

An official highlighted that Sylvia was not a key planner for the Iran war, which falls under U.S. Central Command and its commander, Adm. Brad Cooper. Sylvia’s dismissal was reported by The Atlantic, indicating a loss of Hegseth’s confidence in Sylvia amid policy disputes with Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby.

Sylvia, who previously held a senior role in developing military strategy and advising the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has been sidelined since spring. He is the second leader of the J5 removed under Hegseth’s command, following Lt. Gen. John McGee. Hegseth also removed Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims from the Joint Staff earlier this year.

These leadership changes occur as the Pentagon considers renewed military action against Iran. Reports suggest the U.S. is preparing for possible strikes post-election and has warned Middle Eastern allies of potential Iranian retaliation. Additional U.S. forces are reportedly moving into the region.

A 1994 West Point graduate, Sylvia has over 30 years of Army experience, with multiple combat deployments and injuries. Before leading the J5 in December, he commanded the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell.

Sylvia’s removal is part of a wider reshuffle under Hegseth, involving the dismissal of nearly two dozen high-ranking military officials.
