Chicago Fire Clinch Consecutive Playoff Berths Despite Loss

The Chicago Fire secured a playoff spot on Saturday night, marking their first back-to-back postseason appearances since 2007-09. Although the team lost 1-0 to the New England Revolution, Orlando City’s victory over D.C. United ensured the Fire’s spot in the playoffs.

The Chicago Fire currently hold a 14-10-6 record, amounting to 48 points. They are positioned fourth in the Eastern Conference with four regular-season games remaining. Last year, they returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and achieved their first postseason match victory since 2009 by defeating Orlando City 3-1 in an Eastern Conference wild-card match.

In the game against the Revolution, Matt Polster scored in the first half, aided by assists from Carles Gil and Peyton Miller in the 26th minute. This was Polster’s second goal this season, providing the Revolution a lead they maintained throughout the match. Matt Turner was instrumental, turning away six shots for the Revolution, marking his sixth clean sheet in 30 starts this season.

Chris Brady made three saves for the Chicago Fire, who are experiencing a two-game losing streak following a previous three-game winning streak. The team is set to face Atlanta United in their upcoming match.
