Kai Trump, a freshman at the University of Miami, is facing challenges in her college golf season. She has recently undergone successful surgery to address a wrist injury. This setback occurred during her debut year with the Hurricanes’ women’s golf team.
Trump, the granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, shared an image on Instagram, showing her in a hospital bed with her arm in a sling and cast. The procedure took place at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff, I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love. It’s not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience and determination.
This injury marks her second wrist surgery. In January, she had an earlier procedure on her left wrist to repair tissues of the ECU tendon and triangular fibrocartilage complex. Despite her wrist issues, she recently competed in a three-round tournament in Muncie, Indiana.
Trump hasn’t disclosed a precise recovery timeline. However, she expressed gratitude to Dr. Michelle G. Carlson, a hand and upper extremity specialist, along with her teammates, coaches, and family for their support.
Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
Trump remains optimistic, stating her anticipation of returning to the team stronger and more appreciative than ever. As of now, she focuses on healing and trusts that she will soon be back on the golf course.
