Ilhan Omar’s Immigration History Under Investigation

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s, D-Minn., immigration history is under scrutiny following a search of her Washington, D.C., home by federal agents. Reports indicate subpoenas were issued to her relatives, and her congressional staff requested a change to her birth year in public biographies.

Federal investigators have subpoenaed Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, along with another family member, inquiring into possible fraud and false statements in immigration paperwork, according to The New York Times. Fox News also confirmed subpoenas to multiple family members of Omar. Additionally, the New York Post reported that Omar’s staff asked to amend her birth year from 1981 to 1982, due to discrepancies raised by a former political opponent during their campaign.

“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar stated on social media.

The search was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations early Monday morning as part of an ongoing probe into her immigration paperwork. The Justice Department confirmed the execution of a search warrant as part of the federal criminal investigation.

Omar has consistently denied any immigration wrongdoing, attributing these actions to attempts by the Trump administration to undermine her. She argued that the actions are part of a series of smear campaigns against her.

Email records reviewed by the Post show Omar’s staff reached out to the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library to correct her listed birth year soon after she entered Congress. The library’s original entry lacked supporting documentation and was based on other reference sources.

The Times reported that investigations into Omar’s immigration history have previously not resulted in charges. The investigation’s detailed scope remains uncertain, though grand jury subpoenas indicate ongoing inquiries.

Alongside the immigration developments, U.S. Attorney Jayne Pirro made public an examination of Omar’s financial disclosures. Disclosures revealed significant fluctuations in the reported value of businesses linked to Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, suggesting further inquiry into financial filings.

Omar’s amended filings lowered the couple’s reported assets, addressing earlier oversights regarding business liabilities. The financial disclosures list assets in broad ranges, without providing exact figures. The Office of Congressional Conduct recently recommended dismissing misconduct allegations regarding these disclosures.

President Donald Trump noted the change in Omar’s financial filings, seeking answers from Omar and her team. No confirmations were provided about the linkage of the financial inquiry to the recent search.

Vice President JD Vance, who has accused Omar of immigration fraud in the past, maintained no prior knowledge of the search.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Justice Department, Omar’s office, and the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library for comments.
