On Monday, a tragic incident occurred at Six Flags Over Georgia, resulting in one guest’s death and injuries to several others. The Cobb County Police Department confirmed the occurrence just before 4 p.m.
According to a statement from the police department, multiple individuals sustained injuries, and one person lost their life. While the specific roller coaster involved was not identified by authorities, CBS News Atlanta cameras noted that the Goliath ride was shut down, with guests being evacuated from its largest hill using an emergency stairway.
Details remain limited, and the identity of the deceased guest has not been released. In response, a Six Flags spokesperson expressed the company’s deep sadness over the incident. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” the spokesperson stated. Additionally, the park team and local authorities acted promptly, with a full cooperation in the ongoing investigation.
Guests were evacuated from the Goliath ride following the fatal event. Mableton Mayor Michael Owens acknowledged that the city’s public safety director is working closely with Cobb County police and park officials regarding the situation.
The Goliath, first opened in 2006, is the tallest ride in the park, reaching up to 200 feet and featuring a 170-foot drop that attains speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.
In related news, Six Flags Magic Mountain in California recently announced the permanent closure of its X2 roller coaster. This decision followed multiple lawsuits claiming that over 100 riders suffered brain injuries associated with the attraction.
