Actress Selma Blair was taken into custody on Sunday following allegations of attempting to open an airplane door mid-flight and assaulting flight attendants on a Delta flight, as reported by TMZ. The incident reportedly occurred while the plane was en route to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
According to TMZ, Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another during the flight, resulting in two attendants sustaining injuries. One of the injured attendants required hospitalization, as confirmed by the Port Authority to TMZ.
A representative for Blair commented, “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is now in stable condition.”
A Delta spokesperson informed Newsweek via email that the events transpired on Flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York on October 11. Law enforcement addressed the situation upon the flight’s arrival at JFK. The airline confirmed that the flight landed ahead of schedule and continued its operations without disruptions.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” stated the spokesperson.
TMZ further reported that Blair was also accused of assaulting a nurse upon her arrival at the hospital for assessment. Consequently, she was charged with two counts of assault linked to incidents involving a police officer and the nurse.
The FBI confirmed to Newsweek that it oversees investigations into assaults occurring on aircraft. “Yesterday, we were informed by our partners at Port Authority Police Department of a potential assault aboard a flight that arrived into JFK,” said an FBI spokesperson. “As per long-standing DOJ policy, we do not comment on ongoing investigations.”
Newsweek has reached out to the TSA and Delta for additional comments.
