Oklahoma has removed Jahsiear Rogers, a true freshman wide receiver, from its football program. The announcement was made by team officials on Thursday, just days before the team’s game against Texas in the Red River Rivalry. No explanation was given for Rogers’ dismissal, and he has been taken off the team’s roster.
Rogers, a four-star recruit from Appoquinimink High School in Wilmington, Delaware, had chosen Oklahoma over offers from Alabama, Nebraska, and Penn State. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 180 pounds, Rogers participated in Oklahoma’s spring game, recording five catches for 70 yards. Despite his potential, he only played six offensive snaps without any catches in the first month of the 2026 season.
Former Oklahoma player and current Sooner Radio Network analyst Gabe Ikard shared his thoughts on the situation, stating, “If you don’t treat the people that pour into the program with the respect they deserve…then there’s no place for you at Oklahoma.” Head coach Brent Venables, known for his strict program standards, is believed to be reinforcing his cultural expectations with this decision.
Although the team loses some depth with Rogers’ departure, commentators suggest the impact on the upcoming game against Texas on Saturday will be minimal. The Red River Rivalry remains a significant fixture, and Coach Venables has made it clear that adherence to the program’s standards is crucial.
