The Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians are locked in a tight contest. They’ve faced off 16 times in the regular season and AL Division Series, with the Guardians narrowly leading in runs 69 to 68.
Anticipation for Game 4
White Sox manager Will Venable expressed admiration for both teams. “It’s been incredible,” he noted, acknowledging the distinct nature of each team while praising their competitive spirit. Venable highlighted the enjoyment and challenge of the ongoing series.
The Sox currently lead the ALDS 2-1. Venable views Game 3 as a helpful guide for the upcoming Game 4, held at Rate Field.
Learning from Experience
Venable emphasized the importance of adapting to the high-energy environment. Game 3 led to a record 19 strikeouts for the Sox in a postseason game. Venable believes understanding this atmosphere will aid the team, especially against the familiar opponent, Guardians starter Parker Messick.
Tristan Peters, Sox outfielder, suggests patience as a key factor for success. “Having a little more patience is going to help,” he stated, reflecting on the challenges faced in Game 3.
Facing Parker Messick Again
The Sox have frequently encountered Messick this year. In Game 1 of the series, he allowed two runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings. Tristan Peters is confident the Sox can effectively face Messick once more, suggesting, “We know how he’s going to pitch us.”
The Pitching Strategy
Hagen Smith is set to open Game 4 for the Sox. Despite pitching briefly on Wednesday, Smith feels ready for his starting role. Venable has confidence in Smith despite a challenging outing, citing his consistent postseason performance.
The Sox considered Erick Fedde and Anthony Kay for bulk innings following Smith. Venable acknowledged the impact of free passes, reflecting on the previous game’s ten team walks.
“Hagen has been pivotal throughout. We’re excited he’s starting,” Venable remarked.
