New Hampshire Sets Bluefin Tuna Record with 1,116-Pound Catch

A massive bluefin tuna was caught off the coast of New England, setting a new state record for New Hampshire. Anglers Brandon McGirl and Captain Jamie Savage of Savage Charters NH caught the enormous fish from their boat, ‘Out of Line’, in Rye, NH.

The bluefin tuna was brought in on Saturday, October 3, 2026, amidst challenging sea conditions. McGirl described the situation as rough, yet memorable. As they were about to finish their fishing for the day, they encountered the fish.

“It was very difficult conditions to try and fish. It was a little bit rougher than we were hoping for,” McGirl said.

Once they heard the familiar sound of the reels, the chase began. McGirl and Savage pursued the tuna for over a mile. Landing such a large fish aboard was the toughest part of their night.

Once they managed to lift the fish out of the water, it was an incredible surprise. The tuna weighed in at a whopping 1,116 pounds. This broke the previous New Hampshire record by over 150 pounds, a record that stood since 2013.

“We lifted it out of the water and immediately knew it was way bigger than what we thought and bigger than anything either of us had seen before,” Capt. Savage stated.

The images shared by Captain Savage show an impressive scene. Both anglers appeared small next to the massive fish, which almost didn’t fit in the boat.

WMUR9 reported that the remarkable catch will proceed to market, offering customers a chance to savor this ocean delicacy.
