Former Fuyao Employees Highlight Tough Work Conditions

Former employees of Fuyao Glass America Inc., a glass manufacturer with Chinese ties, gathered in Dayton, Ohio, to share their concerns. The company operates out of an old General Motors plant. The event drew attention from U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who listened to their stories of hardship and negligence.

Tough Work Environment

Tiffany Moore, who worked at the factory for three years, expressed dissatisfaction with her experience. “The heat in there is unbearable; they don’t care,” she told attendees at the meeting held at the International Union of Electrical Workers.

Khanna, serving as the ranking member on the House Select Subcommittee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), traveled to Dayton for Congressional oversight on Fuyao. He had previously requested detailed information from Fuyao about wage suppression and worker conditions. However, Fuyao’s response was limited and did not address the committee’s questions adequately.

“Fuyao Glass America Inc. (FGA) has only provided a single supposed reply letter, dated September 23, that answers virtually none of the Committee’s questions in a material way,” Khanna noted in a letter.

Unionization Challenges

Demetria Hodges, another former employee, shared her experience of the company’s attempts to prevent unionization. She mentioned scare tactics and a temporary pay raise to dissuade workers from voting for a union.

Incident at the Factory

Another ex-employee, Darrell, recounted a tragic industrial accident involving a 57-year-old worker named Ricky Patterson. The company allegedly continued operations the next day despite the incident, adding stress to the workforce.
