Former Governor Matt Bevin Arrested in Kentucky Amid Family Court Dispute

Matt Bevin, former governor of Kentucky, was arrested after defying court orders in a family court and child support dispute. The arrest occurred on a movie set in Paris, Kentucky, where Bevin was working as an extra. Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office deputies, acting on a tip, apprehended him.

The warrant for his arrest was issued by Jefferson County Family Court Judge Angela Johnson, requiring Bevin to serve 60 days in jail and pay a $500 fine for civil contempt. The dispute involves Bevin’s ex-wife, Glenna Bevin, and their adopted son, Jonah, regarding child support and financial records. Glenna complied with the court’s order to submit records, but Bevin repeatedly failed to do so.

“The sad reality is that adoption is supposed to be forever,” Jonah Bevin stated, expressing disappointment over his father’s actions. His lawyers emphasized that the arrest was not Jonah’s desire, as he sought basic financial support.

Bevin previously avoided jail in May, paying a $250 fine for failing to appear in court. He claimed his absence was due to an incident in Maine. Judge Johnson criticized Bevin for his lack of cooperation, stating his behavior would not warrant a reduced sentence.

During his term as governor, Bevin was a notable conservative and ally of President Donald Trump, receiving his endorsement in the 2019 reelection campaign. Despite Trump’s backing, Bevin lost to Andy Beshear by around 5,000 votes.

The focus now is on whether Bevin will comply with court orders and possibly secure release during his sentence.
