St. Charles North’s football team faces an intriguing quarterback situation with sophomore Dashel Von Qualen and senior Landon Conroy. Both players are showcasing their skills early in the season, enhancing the team’s performance. Von Qualen sees himself as a big-play threat alongside Conroy, creating a dynamic partnership.
Von Qualen commented on their collaborative effort, “I think we have a yin-and-yang thing going. If we have the hot hand, we keep it. If someone’s not making plays, we switch it around.” This approach is evident in their recent 56-21 victory over South Elgin, where Von Qualen’s explosive performance included three touchdown passes and a 35-yard rushing touchdown.
Conroy also impressed, completing a significant 57-yard pass and contributing a touchdown both in passing and rushing. His readiness to share the starting role shows dedication to the team’s success. “We’re 2-0, both putting up stats and making the team better. It’s definitely fun,” Conroy stated.
Coach Rob Pomazak appreciates the selflessness shown by both quarterbacks. He sees their cooperation as a strategic advantage. “We’re lucky to have Landon and Dash in the lineup. They accept their roles without conflict, providing us with a fastball, change-up type of deal.” Pomazak values their teamwork, giving opponents varied challenges.
“I think we understand it gives teams two completely different things to prepare for,” Von Qualen said. “We’re both starter caliber. It makes it hard for opponents.”
