President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the United States has reached a significant agreement with Venezuela to manage the country’s substantial oil reserves. The deal marks a pivotal moment in international energy markets.
Trump’s Announcement:
The United States of America has just entered into an agreement with the country of Venezuela on a major oil deal. Under my direction, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth have, alongside Venezuela’s Interim President Delcy Rodriguez and private business partners, secured American control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in Venezuela. This comes at no cost to the American taxpayer.Trump stated on Truth Social.
He emphasized that this agreement near doubles the current American oil reserves.
Venezuela’s Oil Reserves:
Venezuela is home to one of the largest oil reserves globally, making up approximately 17% of the world’s supply. The country’s reserves total an estimated 303 billion barrels of crude oil, significantly influencing global oil dynamics. Although these reserves are vast, Venezuela’s production remains limited due to outdated infrastructure, accounting for only about 1% of the world’s oil output.
Recent Developments:
In January, the U.S. military conducted an operation to detain Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He faces federal charges in the U.S. related to narcoterrorism and drug trafficking.
Impact on U.S. and Venezuela:
As midterm elections approach, Trump is under pressure due to escalating gas prices driven by the war with Iran, initiated by the U.S. and Israel six months ago.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the agreement as a significant triumph for both nations. In a post on X, he remarked, This agreement showcases President Trump’s assertive foreign policy, ensuring stable oil supplies and lower costs within the hemisphere, which helps reduce domestic gas prices. For Venezuela, it promises nearly $100 billion in private investments, supporting job creation and economic reconstruction.
