A former Reagan administration national security official has expressed concern over an emerging “red-green alliance,” which he identifies as a collaboration between radical Islamists and far-left socialists. These unlikely partners are said to be united by a common anti-American agenda.
Frank Gaffney discussed this issue in an interview with Fox News Digital, highlighting the influence of the Democratic Socialists of America and the potential threats to U.S. national security. He remarked, “One can argue that the Sharia supremacists are pursuing communism with a God, or at least a patina, a veneer of religiosity.” He believes these ideologies are linked by totalitarianism, aiming for different outcomes, yet willing to cooperate to undermine the United States.
“So that’s where we find ourselves at the moment — with a red-green axis that seeks the destruction of our country.”
Gaffney, who served as assistant secretary of defense for international security policy under President Reagan, founded the Center for Security Policy think tank. He stressed that the “red-green alliance” symbolizes the political cooperation between far-left movements (red) and Islamist movements (green).
While the far left and Islamists have differing ultimate goals, Gaffney argued that both share a common adversary in the American constitutional system, posing a significant obstacle to their ambitions. This concept was debated during a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network in America.”
Senator Ted Cruz outlined the relationship between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Democratic Socialists of America as the “Red-Green Alliance.” According to Kyle Shideler, a homeland security analyst, this alliance shares a revolutionary objective to diminish Americanism, including the Constitution.
Gaffney reinforced this stance, claiming both movements are “perfectly willing to make common cause” with an immediate goal of destabilizing the U.S. Shideler supported Cruz’s characterization, acknowledging evidence of their shared revolutionary agenda.
Muslim critics of radical Islamism have also scrutinized the “red-green alliance.” Dalia Ziada, a Muslim scholar, criticized the alliance following Hamas’ attacks on Israel. She warned that the nexus of radical Islamism with the radical left poses a threat to the U.S., American politics, and Western society.
An investigation by Fox News Digital uncovered around 425 organizations involved in this transnational protest network, collectively generating about $1 billion annually.
