Paige Bueckers is becoming a standout figure in the WNBA. If you ask fans for the top three players, Bueckers likely ranks alongside Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson.
The 24-year-old guard for the Dallas Wings had a remarkable rookie season. She claimed the WNBA and AP Rookie of the Year awards, secured a spot on the All-WNBA Second Team, and became an All-Star.
This season, Bueckers ranks in the top 10 for scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game, and assists at 5.9 per game. Her performance has helped Dallas secure the final playoff spot.
“Bueckers has come into her own as one of the best guards in the league this season,” wrote Alexa Philippou. “Her numbers have dipped slightly since the All-Star break, but she still delivered standout performances recently – scoring 32 points in three quarters against Seattle and a 22-point, 11-assist double-double against Portland.”
Despite these achievements, Bueckers was ranked No. 5 in ESPN’s top 50 players. She trails Wilson, Clark, New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart, and Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles.
This season, Bueckers’ average points and assists per game have increased compared to last year. She leads the Wings in scoring, assists, and minutes per game (32.2). Additionally, she ranks second in rebounds (4.1 per game) and third in steals (0.8 per game).
With Azzi Fudd, the No. 1 overall pick, sidelined due to a knee injury, Bueckers carries immense responsibility. The Wings, driven by her leadership, aim to solidify their playoff position.
Dallas has other key contributors like Arike Ogunbowale, averaging 15.2 points per game, and Jessica Shepard at 14.4 points per game. While a deep playoff run may be challenging, the Wings have evidently advanced their rebuilding process this year.
