Conservatives criticized Democratic Representative Debbie Dingell following her comments about Republican efforts to involve Hasan Piker, a socialist streamer, in Michigan’s Senate race.
According to the Republican National Committee’s research account, Dingell expressed frustration regarding questions about Piker, whom critics see as a political liability for Democrats. Dingell participated in a campaign event with Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed despite distancing herself from Piker.
“Debbie Dingell CRASHES OUT over terrorist-sympathizer Hasan Piker who has called to kill Republicans,” wrote the Republican National Committee’s research account.
Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, known for controversial statements, appeared alongside El-Sayed. Critics, including Senate Republicans, questioned Dingell’s affiliation with Piker. They called on her to dissociate from him to avoid further questioning.
“Debbie Dingell does not want anyone talking about Hasan Piker because it is bad for Democrats ahead of the midterms,” commented conservative commentator Shawn Farash.
Dingell and Rep. Jamie Raskin campaigned for El-Sayed, asserting Piker’s presence was not central to the election.
“I am done, so don’t any reporter ask me again about Hasan Piker,” said Dingell. “It’s not what November is about.”
Hasan Piker, criticized for incendiary comments like “America deserved 9/11,” remains connected to El-Sayed’s campaign. El-Sayed condemned antisemitism, emphasizing his campaign speaks solely through him and his spokespeople.
Piker demands Democrats defend him from attacks, claiming he’s no “toxic radical force.”
