Karoline Leavitt is stepping down from her role as White House press secretary while continuing to play a key part in selecting her successor. During her last official interview on Thursday, she confirmed she has been consulting with President Donald Trump about candidates for the position.
Speaking on “Fox & Friends,” Leavitt stated, “Of course, we’ve spoken about it.” She emphasized that many capable individuals are interested in the role, noting the large number of applications.
Leavitt did not disclose specific contenders but mentioned she has discussed with Trump the traits necessary for the position. She expressed her desire to remain involved in the decision-making process until a choice is made.
“Ultimately, it has to be his decision to make. The press secretary and the president spend a lot of time together—it has to be someone he trusts fully,” Leavitt said.
Reflecting on her tenure, Leavitt described her departure as “bittersweet.” She is stepping back to spend more time with her young children but expressed immense gratitude for her experience. “It’s been the honor and blessing of a lifetime to work for this president, President Trump,” she shared.
Leavitt credited Trump with offering his support as she decided to leave her post, portraying him as both a “boss and a friend.” Her nearly 20-month stint included managing extensive public communications, with the White House recording millions of words from various events.
