The Chicago White Sox secured a 10-4 win against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday at Rate Field, thanks to remarkable performances by their outfielders. Left fielder Tristan Peters excelled, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs. This marked his fifth consecutive game with a home run, tying the franchise record.
Center fielder Brenton Doyle also delivered, with two hits, including a three-run homer, and four RBIs. Right fielder Braden Montgomery contributed with an RBI double and scored twice. The White Sox managed to take two out of three games in the series.
‘It was one of those days that everyone contributed,’ commented manager Will Venable. ‘We had great performances throughout the lineup.’
The White Sox remain 2 1/2 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central standings.
During the game, Braden Montgomery (center) caught a critical short fly ball by Texas Rangers second baseman Justin Foscue, ending the top of the fifth inning.
Despite facing challenges from starting pitcher Sean Burke, who struggled with eight walks in three-plus innings, the Sox managed to excel. Burke allowed two runs on two hits and achieved three strikeouts in addition to the walks. Reflecting on his performance, Burke said, ‘It was pretty terrible. I said to (fellow starter Anthony) Kay that it was probably one of my worst games. But our team showed great support.’
Reliever Sean Newcomb impressed with three scoreless innings, while Jonathan Cannon closed it out with two runs across three innings, ensuring the save.
Montgomery’s RBI double contributed to a two-run second inning, while Peters doubled and scored in the fourth. Peters’ two-run homer in the fifth inning matched the franchise record. He shares this achievement with players like Munetaka Murakami (earlier this season), A.J. Pierzynski (2012), and others.
‘I’m seeing the spin well, everything looks good right now,’ said Peters.
Doyle continued the impressive performance with a three-run homer in a four-run sixth inning.
‘I felt good all night,’ Doyle remarked. ‘I was making strong swings and finally connected for a home run.’
The White Sox concluded a challenging 4-3 homestand. ‘Winning another series amid a tough stretch of 16 games in 16 days is significant,’ Manager Venable noted. ‘These players are working hard, and earning the series win is rewarding.’
