Oklahoma Democrats Face Runoff Election

Oklahoma Democrats will vote on Tuesday to select their U.S. Senate nominee. Two political newcomers are in contention: nurse N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas and attorney Jim Priest.

The winners will advance to challenge Representative Kevin Hern, a Republican, in the November election.

In the initial Democratic primary held in June, five candidates competed. Thomas garnered the highest support with over 45 percent of the vote. However, she didn’t reach the required majority to avoid a runoff. Priest followed with slightly less than 24 percent of the votes.
