Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former Missouri television news anchor, has confessed to fatally stabbing her mother on Halloween last year. Authorities reported that Mock believed her mother was the devil. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced her guilty plea to one count of first-degree murder for killing 80-year-old Anita Avers on Oct. 31, 2025.
Mock could face life imprisonment with eligibility for parole after 25 years. Officers responded to a call at the Wichita home shared by Mock, her mother, and stepfather at about 7:50 a.m. on the day of the incident. The Wichita Police Department found Mock outside the home with injuries on her hands. Avers was taken to a hospital but succumbed to multiple stab wounds.
During the investigation, Mock claimed she killed her mother to “save herself,” indicating she thought her mother was the devil. A probable cause affidavit supported these statements. Mock’s stepfather informed KAKE-TV that she struggled with mental illness, including delusions and depression.
Mock has a history as a news anchor, formerly working for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Her LinkedIn profile also lists experience as a morning anchor for KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011 and other reporting roles in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.
Angelynn “Angie” Mock is set to be sentenced on Oct. 5. She was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail under suspicion of first-degree murder.
