IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix Practice Highlights

The initial practice session at the IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix allowed teams to test wet tires. The second practice session unfolded on a dry track just hours before qualifying.

Graham Rahal’s No. 15 Honda caused a red flag during the early minutes of this session. As Rahal approached a braking zone, the car’s rear lost control and hit the wall, leaving him in the run-off area. This incident reduced his track time before qualifying started.

Track conditions improved with dry weather.

Lap times decreased significantly as drivers adapted to the challenging seven-turn street circuit. Turn 6 became a critical section after causing issues for more drivers.

Louis Foster, Rahal’s RLL teammate, experienced trouble in the same area. A bump on the track sent him into the inside wall, damaging his front wing and causing another red flag. However, Foster managed to return to the pits, allowing his team to assess and fix his car.

Drivers remain cautious about Turn 6 in both qualifying and the race.

Alex Palou led the final practice session before qualifying, posting the fastest lap. Team Penske impressed with Scott McLaughlin’s late-session lap, achieving a time of 56.895 on primary tires.

Excitement built as drivers tested faster alternate tires.

Kyle Kirkwood from Andretti Global continued his strong performance, finishing second using primary tires. Palou maintained his lead with a 56.615 on new red alternate tires, while Kirkwood followed closely with a 56.691 on primary tires.

The outcome of qualifying remains unpredictable, with many drivers showing potential speed.
