Gronkowski Sees Potential in Drake Maye’s New Weapon, AJ Brown

Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski shared insights on how quarterback Drake Maye’s performance could improve in the upcoming NFL season. Following a Super Bowl LXI loss, the Patriots made significant roster changes by releasing veteran receiver Stefon Diggs and acquiring former Philadelphia Eagles star AJ Brown. This addition provides Maye with a top-tier target, which Gronkowski believes will greatly enhance Maye’s game.

Gronkowski praised Brown, saying, “He’s a player that reminds me of myself, but at the wide receiver position. A larger body that knows how to use his physicality to get open, even when well-covered.” He emphasized that Brown’s presence would be crucial for Maye’s growth, as Maye has not previously had a receiver of Brown’s stature and skill set.

Maye’s challenge now is to place passes where only Brown can reach them. Gronkowski likened this opportunity to his own experiences with Tom Brady, stating, “If Maye can connect with Brown in tight situations, the offense could reach new heights.”

Last season, Maye’s sophomore year was remarkable. He threw for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and had only eight interceptions. He led in QBR with 77.1 and had the top passer rating of 113.5. Brown, after a tumultuous season with the Eagles, recorded 1,003 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. His move to New England offers a fresh start under familiar faces, including former Titans coach Mike Vrabel, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel.

The Patriots face strong competition in the AFC, contending with teams like the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs. Yet, with Maye and Brown developing a strong partnership, the Patriots’ prospects could significantly improve.
