ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Joseph Sawyer returned to Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) at the Showboat Resort Atlantic City, New Jersey, on a memorable Saturday night. Previously known as Joe Gacy, the former WWE star battled fiercely to claim the GCW World Championship, defeating Atticus Cogar in a gripping match filled with suspense and drama.
In his first GCW appearance since 2020, when he was known as Psycho Joe, Sawyer engaged in an intense matchup against Cogar. The match was marked by relentless chair shots and attempts to drive Cogar through a door positioned in a ring corner.
The night also featured tributes to the late Bray Wyatt, with Cogar’s entrance music and attire reflecting respect for the former WWE star who passed away in August 2023. Sawyer’s decisive move, a Sister Abigail DDT, secured his victory, igniting the packed crowd at the Showboat with enthusiasm as they celebrated his triumph.
Elsewhere in the event, Otis Cogar successfully defended his GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Anakin Murphy. Murphy, embracing the New Jersey audience, appeared in gear inspired by Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance. Despite Murphy’s use of a Buffalo Bills helmet as an impromptu weapon, Cogar’s determined performance earned him the win.
Another highlight of the night was the Chola Chain Match between Vipress and Christian Napier. Tethered together by a chain, the match escalated in brutality when Napier threw Vipress into a chair, causing her to bleed. Demonstrating immense resilience, Vipress used light tubes and chained Napier’s face, securing a victory by making him tap out. Following her win, she called out Cogar for a future challenge for the championship.
The event continued with a six-man deathmatch featuring Nick Gage, Nino Extremo, and Sicko The Clown against Conor Claxton, Dr. Redacted, and Jimmy Lloyd. Claxton experienced a dangerous fall from a scaffold, and Sicko The Clown managed to pin him through light tubes, though Claxton was later deemed okay after being taken to the hospital.
Additional matches included KJ Orso and Sam Stackhouse’s victory over Alec Price and Jordan Oliver to become new tag team champions. Joey Janela, aided by Ryan O’Neill, narrowly avoided retirement with a win over Marko Stunt. Further successes were seen by Bear Bronson and Gabby Forza, who defeated Charles Mason and Slade.
