A judge mandated that the Kennedy Center must pay over $250,000 to jazz musician Chuck Redd. The order follows Redd’s withdrawal from a scheduled performance after the venue’s decision to rename the building in honor of President Donald Trump.
D.C. Superior Court Judge Tanya Jones Bosier issued the ruling on Monday. The center is required to pay $252,000 covering legal fees and costs incurred by Redd’s legal team. For years, Chuck Redd performed at the center’s annual Christmas Eve concert.
This decision comes after previously discarding the center’s lawsuit against Redd in June. The lawsuit had been related to his decision to cancel his performance.
