The police uncovered the remains of two individuals in an Arizona backyard on Thursday. This discovery occurred during a search for a missing couple whose son is suspected of leaving the country.
According to Officer Daniel Benavidez, a spokesperson for the Avondale police, the son, Matthew Flores, 27, was initially included in the missing persons report filed by concerned family members on Tuesday. The police made a welfare check at a home in Litchfield Park, where they noticed signs of foul play.
“A large amount of blood was found, along with attempts to conceal it, which led us to suspect foul play,” Benavidez stated during a news conference on Thursday.
The human remains discovered in the yard had not been identified as of Thursday afternoon. Phoenix police homicide unit assisted in recovering the remains, as Benavidez informed the media.
The family had reported the mother, father, and their adult son missing, expecting them at the residence where the remains were eventually found. The names of the parents remain undisclosed, honoring the family’s request.
Due to decomposition, it was unclear how long the bodies had been in the backyard. Flores is now a suspect in this investigation, according to Benavidez.
The police are actively searching for Flores and have several leads. They urge anyone with information regarding Flores or his whereabouts to contact the department. Benavidez did not specify to which country Flores is suspected of fleeing, only stating, “he fled the country.”
