Vincent Pastore, renowned for his portrayal of mobsters and notably recognized for his role as Salvatore ‘Big Pussy’ Bonpensiero on ‘The Sopranos’, has passed away at the age of 80. The veteran actor, who graced both screen and stage, was found in his home on City Island, New York.
His longtime manager, Bob McGowan, shared the news of Pastore’s passing, having learned about it through Vincent Curatola, another actor from ‘The Sopranos’. McGowan recalled Pastore’s loyalty and philanthropy. He highlighted Pastore’s readiness to help others, emphasizing how rare such qualities were in the entertainment industry.
Pastore’s extensive career spanned decades, beginning in the 1980s and featuring roles in iconic films such as ‘Goodfellas‘ and ‘Awakenings‘ in 1990. He often portrayed gangsters with authenticity and depth, most memorably during his 30-episode run on ‘The Sopranos’. His character’s turning point as an FBI informant captivated audiences.
Born in the Bronx, Pastore grew up in suburban New Rochelle, New York. His life before acting included service in the Navy during the Vietnam War and academic pursuits at Pace University. He leaves behind a daughter, Renee Pastore, who survives him.
