Kennedy Expressway Exit Closure Following Retaining Wall Failure

Kennedy Expressway Exit Closure Following Retaining Wall Failure

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has closed the inbound Lawrence Avenue exit on the Kennedy Expressway. The decision came after a part of a retaining wall crumbled near Jefferson Park, leading to an emergency road closure on Interstate 90.

IDOT announced this measure on Saturday, citing the morning failure of the concrete wall. It remains uncertain how long this exit will be closed to traffic. IDOT is currently inspecting the damage and assessing necessary repairs. This evaluation will determine the scope and duration of long-term closures.

The department plans to provide further details once the inspections are finalized. During this period, commuters are advised to factor in extra travel time and consider alternative routes. Special attention should be given to work zones and the presence of workers and repair equipment along the expressway.

Drivers are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to traffic rules to ensure safety during ongoing repairs.
