For eight seasons, Richardson portrayed Jill Taylor, married to Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, played by Tim Allen. Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith became household names as Randy and Mark Taylor, respectively, with Zachery Ty Bryan as the eldest son, Brad.
The reunion was special for fans who rarely see Thomas. A major child star of the 1990s, Thomas stepped back from Hollywood at the peak of his career. Known for his role as Randy Taylor, Thomas was also a teen heartthrob in films such as “Tom and Huck” and “Man of the House.” Notably, he voiced young Simba in Disney’s “The Lion King.”
Thomas made an unexpected decision to leave Hollywood for school and travel, sharing with People in 2013, “I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old.” He exited “Home Improvement” during its eighth season, with his character moving to Costa Rica.
Though out of the spotlight for a while, Thomas briefly returned to acting, teaming up again with Tim Allen on “Last Man Standing” from 2013 to 2015, appearing in several episodes and directing three.
Similarly, Taran Noah Smith departed the acting scene after “Home Improvement” finished in 1999, pursuing various careers. He founded a vegan food company, worked as an installation artist, and contributed to developing energy-efficient water purification systems.
Smith’s personal life encountered challenges. He married Heidi Van Pelt at 17, who was significantly older, and divorced in 2007. Legal battles followed with his parents over a $1.5 million trust fund, though reconciliation occurred later.
This reunion photo rekindles fans’ appreciation for “Home Improvement’s” legacy, notably the dynamic that Richardson and Allen shared. Richardson once noted Allen’s admirable achievements in acting, despite little credit given, remarking that he had received acting lessons during the show.
Zachery Ty Bryan, who portrayed Brad Taylor, expanded his career appearing in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Veronica Mars,” and “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” Yet, Bryan faced legal problems recently, sentenced to 16 months for a DUI arrest.
