Ransom Notes and Disappearance
Authorities released two ransom notes days after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie went missing from her home outside Tucson on February 1. The first note, received on February 2, claimed Guthrie was alive and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency, with threats of harm if the ransom was not paid. A subsequent note on February 6 ominously stated Guthrie died shortly after she was kidnapped and was now buried “in nature.” Both notes were sent to a Tucson television station.

Guthrie wrote on Instagram, urging anyone with knowledge of the situation to speak up.
Urging Public Cooperation
Savannah Guthrie emphasized the importance of finding closure, appealing to individuals who may recognize the writing style of the ransom notes or who have observed suspicious behavior. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department seeks leads through linguistics in the notes, asserting they possess distinctive linguistic traits recognizable to associates of the writer.

The sheriff’s department noted a parallel to the infamous Unabomber case, where authorities leveraged linguistic analysis to identify and capture Theodore Kaczynski.

On Friday, the sheriff’s office highlighted two new videos from Guthrie’s doorbell camera. The footage suggests preparatory measures taken by an unidentified male before Guthrie’s abduction. Authorities are actively searching for individuals exhibiting altered behavior, such as physical appearance changes or an abrupt departure from the Tucson area.
The FBI is involved, having released images from surveillance videos. These videos show a masked person tampering with Guthrie’s front porch camera, described as a male around 5 feet, 9 inches tall.
