Recent reports highlight a significant decline in crime rates across the United States. The Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) shared findings that indicate homicides may hit a historic low this year. In large U.S. cities, homicide rates have decreased by 18% from the previous year. Other crimes, such as carjackings, motor vehicle thefts, robberies, and residential burglaries, have also seen substantial declines. Carjackings, for instance, are down by 47%, and motor vehicle thefts have decreased by 20%.
According to the White House, these figures reflect notable progress in fulfilling a commitment to boost law and order in the country. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attributes part of this success to the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants. Assistant DHS Secretary Lauren Bis explained, “It is common sense. When you remove criminals from the country, crime rates fall.”
The agency has recently deported several high-profile criminal illegal immigrants. These include individuals involved in violent crimes such as homicide, drug trafficking, and robbery. Among those deported was Jared Adonay Cruz-Rivera, a Honduran national and member of the foreign terrorist organization Tren de Aragua, deported for convictions of robbery and drug possession.
Mexican national Olegario Ramirez, associated with the Paisas gang, was deported after convictions for homicide and illegal re-entry. Bulmaro Rendon-Ramos, another Mexican national, had a criminal record for robbery, burglary, and driving under the influence. He was also deported.
Nammoun Khampanya, a Laotian member of the Crips gang, faced deportation after being convicted of drug possession and various offenses. Omar Loaces Gonzalez from Cuba and Haitian national Marc James Guerrier Pinard were deported for vehicle theft, fraud, and multiple counts of armed carjacking, respectively.
Bis asserted that President Trump’s administration has effectively reduced crime and made the nation safer. The correlation between lower crime rates and the removal of dangerous individuals from the U.S. aligns with the administration’s policies.
