Federal prosecutors have requested the dismissal of charges against former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn. He was initially indicted for allegedly damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. New evidence suggests the damage resulted from a contractor’s faulty installation, not vandalism.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., had previously charged Hearn with felony destruction of government property. The damage was estimated to exceed $1,000, caused to the sealant installed at the Reflecting Pool’s bottom during a project supported by President Trump. Hearn has consistently denied the accusations.
