Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination to become the permanent leader of the Department of Justice (DOJ) is currently uncertain. His confirmation is challenged by two Republican senators. John Cornyn from Texas and Thom Tillis from North Carolina have voiced their opposition.
The senators want the DOJ to eliminate a $1.8 billion fund intended to compensate individuals who claim wrongful prosecution. Until the fund is revoked, they will not support Blanche’s nomination.
