When Jake Paul initially stepped into the realm of professional boxing, skepticism was high. Fighting mostly against retired MMA fighters, such as Anderson Silva, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Nate Diaz, along with a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, provided ample reason for doubt.
Despite holding a 12-2 boxing record, Paul struggled against professional boxers. He faced defeats against both Anthony Joshua and Tommy Fury. His single win came against a 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., secured via decision.
The match against Joshua was particularly challenging. Paul ended up with a broken jaw, which seems to have prompted thoughts of a career change.
The 29-year-old, known for his YouTube fame turned athletic endeavors, now eyes an opportunity in the NFL. Paul claims he has engaged in conversations with various teams who might be interested in signing him.
“I have a couple teams and coaches that I’ve already talked to that are interested in bringing me onto the team,” Paul told Front Office Sports. “It’s really going to be quite easy.”
Paul’s last experience with competitive football dates back more than a decade. He played varsity at Westlake High School during his freshman and sophomore years, before leaving to focus on an entertainment career.
Confident in his abilities, Paul believes he can surpass many current NFL wide receivers. He commented on the perceived mediocrity in the NFL, stating that many players consistently drop passes. Paul asserts his skills are superior, claiming to possess better hands, speed, and strength.
He expressed a specific interest in playing for the Cleveland Browns, influenced by his long-time fandom and his mother’s loyalty to the team.
However, not all teams are showing interest. NFL insider Benjamin Albright reported that Paul’s representatives contacted the Denver Broncos, but the team declined involvement.
