Authorities reported injuries, including one critical, after a seaplane crash off Washington state coast on Thursday. The Kenmore Air seaplane carried 11 people when it crashed near Sucia Island in the San Juan Islands around 5:30 p.m., according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed all passengers, including the pilot, were rescued from the water. Injuries varied from head traumas to broken bones and lacerations. One individual remains in critical condition, but no fatalities have been reported so far.
The seaplane, a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter, went down 45 minutes post-departure from Seattle’s Lake Union. Kenmore Air has subsequently canceled all flights for Friday.
Kenmore Air CEO David Gudgel expressed gratitude for the rescue efforts. “We are grateful that everyone aboard has been accounted for, and our immediate focus is ensuring our passengers and pilot receive the care and support they need,” he said.
He also thanked the U.S. Coast Guard and local emergency responders, stating Kenmore Air’s full cooperation in the ongoing investigation. The situation remains under development, with further updates expected.
